What is Mp3?

Mp3 stands for Mpeg Audio Layer-3. Mp3 is a type of audio codec where processed by significant compression from the original audio source with very little loss in sound quality. The compression up to 12:1 produces a very little degradation. Tighter compression can be achieved, but it will effect in sound degradation results. Normaly an mp3 file has a bitrate of 128 kb/s witch is very close to the soundquality of a CD.

The advantage of MP3 is that it can be broken up into pieces, and each piece is still playable. The feature that makes this possible (headerless file format) also means that MP3 files can be made to stream across the net real-time (assuming the playback bitrate and speed of the Internet connection are compatible).

Is mp3 legal?
The mp3 technology is entirely legal. A lot of new bands use mp3 to promote themselves through the internet, and this sometimes helps them to get signed with a record label.

How do I download an mp3 file?
You download mp3 files the same way you would download any other file. Just click on the file you wannt to download. If that won't work you can also right-click on the file and choose "save target as", and put it in the directory you wannt it in.

What software do I need to play an mp3 file?
The only software you'll need is an mp3 player. Winamp is the one you should download. (There are others but winamp is simply the best!)
